The Institute for the Cooperation to the Development (ICS) is a consortium of local authorities, founded in the 1988 (law 49/87): the members of the consortium are the Province of Alessandria and the Municipalities of Alessandria, Castelnuovo Scrivia, Novi Ligure, Ovada and Valenza. The ICS represents the expression of local authorities’ political wish to destine resources to international cooperation, to intercultural education, to the reception of the foreign citizens.

The institute operates in two principal directions:

  • it plans and it realizes interventions of international cooperation and informational – raising awareness campaigns that involve multilevel institutional actors and civil society
  • it promotes the culture of international cooperation, peace and antiracism through the training of the teachers, the educational interventions in the schools and the publishing initiatives.

All these activities are directly financed by ICS or co-financed by Piedmont Region, European Union, local authorities, private donors.

The sectors of intervention are:

  • Projects of international cooperation with the developing Countries (Bulgaria, Morocco, Tunisia, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Mozambique, Cuba, etc)
  • Intercultural education
  • Assistance in the reception of foreign pupils in the schools
  • Centre of documentation

Osnago is a small town in the province of Lecco, that has promoted many initiatives concerning Afghanistan reality (debates, raise awareness activities in the schools, micro-projects). The involvement inside the present project wants to offer the possibility to organize various activities focused on the women of Afghanistan.
Of particular interest for the present intervention results to be the presence in Osnago of a Multimedia Historical Archives: the Town Library of Osnago in collaboration with the local associations has organized, in the last years, a series of initiatives finalized to the reconstruction of an historical memory concerning life during the different events of the XX century.
The analysis of this and other similar experiences can be of great utility to reproduce the activities in the Afghan context.

The Municipality of Pieve Emanuele has promoted many projects of international cooperation thanks to the different associations and cooperatives that work in its province.
The Municipality has given a contribution to the association Mani Tese for the construction of a well and an elementary school in Burkina Faso.
In partnership with Mani Tese and the association Ya basta, the town administration has started a series of projects in the Chiapas after having stipulated a pact of twinship with the autonomous town of St. Pedro to Pholò.
In 2003 the Municipality promoted another project, titled "Rousseau toward Shu'fat", on the initiative of the cooperative Russeau, that proposed the education and the training of operators and animators of children and boys living in the Shu’fat refugee camp in Palestine.

The association was founded to work together with the Cooperative Chico Mendes in the activities of international cooperation and intercultural education.
The cooperative Chico Mendes is a NGO that promotes fair trade and micro credit projects. Through the fair trade with the South of the world and numerous educational and cultural activities, it propose to create and to spread economic exchanges that focuse on the dignity of every person. Founded in December of 1990 by a group of students, the cooperative has had a rapid and constant growth, in tuning with the development of the whole movement of the Italian fair trade. Currently it has around two thousand partners and, thanks to the support of the partners workers and of numerous volunteers, it manages ten shops Altromercato in Milan and the cultural circle Chicobar; it promotes initiatives of information and sensitization; it proposes educational interventions in the schools; it develops projects of cooperation with the producers of the South of the world and proposals of responsible tourism.
The cooperative Chico Mendes is partner of the consortium Ctm altromercato, the greatest organization of fair trad in Italy. The role in the present intervention is to organize training courses on fair trade and microcredit for the personnel of HAWCA that will work in the Safe house and in the Cultural Centre.

NABA is an art and design training Academy, legally recognized, founded in 1980 by a group of artists, as Guido Ballo, Gianni Colombo, Lucio Del Pezzo, Emilio Isgrò, Tito Varisco, Luigi Veronesi, with the objective of questioning the strictness of academic tradition and introducing visions and languages closer to the contemporary artistic practices and to the system of art and creative professions.
The structure of NABA integrates the canonical disciplines of visual art, contemporary digital practices and planning and critical culture of Italian design The foundation of its philosophy is the art applied to the project, synthesis of creative sensibility, critical-methodological knowledge and technical-manual labour.
NABA formative courses adopt an interdisciplinary methodology, focused on the development of artistic- professional knowledge, in the fields of art, design, fashion, media and graphics. This approach comes from a never-ending experimentation, from a strong vocation for research and relationship with the artistic and productive context and from a particular attention to the ethic aspect of training.
NABA issues three years certificate of first level (BA) in Visual Arts, Design, Fashion and Textile Design, Graphic Design and Art Direction, Media Design and Set Designing.
Starting from January 2007 some masters and two years specialization courses have been activated in the field of 3d Animation, Art Direction, Visual Art, Photography. NabaFuturarium is a new section of the Academy, formed by professionals that, relating with professors and students, have the target to organize performances, special projects, exhibitions, events and to coordinate meetings and collaborations that involve all the schools inside the Academy.
The target of NABA Futurarium is also to create cultural partnership that allow students to enter the world of work still attending the Academy, in an environment that they already know and accompanied by their professors.

The association for a Free University of the Women - Onlus is born in 1987 as fruit of an intense and profitable relationship among the Italian feminist movement. Among the general finalities of the association there is also the training sector. The role in the present intervention is to organize training courses.

The House of Reception of Ill-treated Women begins its activities in 1986 with the purpose to build a place of listening and help for women in difficulty because of physical, psychological and domestic violence.
During the years it has developed important relationships with women of all the ages and social conditions that show an underestimated phenomenon: the violence inside the family carried on by husbands, cohabitants, engaged and also by other relatives.
The House gives consultation and support to many women in need.
The first objective is to give the possibilities of the construction of a new life, the rediscovery of women’s resources and ability.
The House of the Ill-treated Women continues its own road to the search of new and true ways to help women and to effect the practice of the relationship among women.

The Association is the result and the synthesis of the job of some associations and Italian groups that operate for the rights of the women and the dignity of the person against fundamentalisms and wars.
The finalities of the Association are:

  • To maintain the attention on the difficult and precarious situation of Afghanistan
  • To put side by side some associations of afghan women in the realization of projects and to promote the right to education, job, health for everybody
  • To promote female contribution to the construction of a future of peace and democracy
  • To promote horizontal collaboration for the emancipation and liberation of afghan women.

The Foundation Elvira Badaracco was born in 1994 from the institutional transformation of the Centre of historical studies on the movement of liberation of the woman in Italy with the purpose to promote the study of the culture and the political and social experience of the women, with a specific attention to the history of the feminism and the female associations.
The Foundation has objective to increase the study of the general reality of the women and recognizes the opportunity to improve all the forms of female job.
The activity of the Foundation is set in continuity with the experience of the Centre of historical study, in the perspective to improve and to increase the sectors of job already consolidated:

  • the maintenance and the exploitation of archive connected to the history of women;
  • the construction and the exploitation of a specialized library on the political and cultural reflection of women;
  • the search on the great themes of the history of the women.

Studio Azzurro is a circle of artistic search communicating through the languages of the new technologies. It was founded in 1982 by Fabio Cirifino (photo), Paulo Rosa (visual arts and cinema), Leonardo Sangiorgi (graphics and animation) and Stefano Roveda (interactive systems).
Since twenty years, Studio Azzurro investigates the poetic and expressive possibilities of these means of communication. Through sensitive and interactive environments, theatrical performance and film, it has marked a run that is recognized all over the world, from numerous and important artistic and theatrical demonstrations.

History: at the beginning HAWCA was a group of volunteer refugees, serving the refugees interring Pakistan border in health and consoling.
The group in 1999 received the support of some international societies and formed HAWCA.
In Pakistan, the organization served the refugees in health by mobile health teams and provision of educational possibilities in different refugees camps and provision of relief service to the most needy refugees.
In 2000 the organization expanded its activities and projects inside Afghanistan, establishing home based secret literacy courses for women and vocational training and income generation services to poor women for the support of their families and facilitated monitor of the project to the donors.
After collapse of Taliban the organization head quarter moved to Kabul and registered with MoP and with MoE. The home based secret literacy courses changed to literacy centres in the province of Jalalabad, Kabul, Farah, Nemroz and Mazar provinces, and each centre provided service for 200 women.
The organization projects were running in Pakistan till the end of 2006.
In Afghanistan, HAWCA focused its attention on education of children and women through the establishment of primary schools and peace building education for children.
Computer and English courses for the youths were organized and women protection was implemented thanks to to Safe house project. Lobbying on women human right become the main strategy for HAWCA.
In the main time as a active member of civil society, HAWCA had active role on women right in constitution, transitional justice and violence against women. HAWCA is an active member of civil society and human right network as well as Afghan women network AWN.
